Take Pride in Every Accomplishment

Every action you take, and every accomplishment you achieve is a reflection of your knowledge, effort and skills. Every accomplishment projects your energies and abilities to those around you. Accomplishments, small and large are the driving force behind productivity, growth and expansion. For this reason, whether your accomplishment is large (completing a college degree) or small (growing your first tomatoes), you should take pride in each, and use each as a springboard to achieve bigger and better goals.

Accomplishments, Big and Small, Make the World go ‘Round

Each day is made of little tasks that, when grouped together, represent large accomplishments. Each small accomplishment leads to larger accomplishments, like a row of dominos falling. A salesperson might make a phone call to a customer who is ordering shirts for a trade show where he will promote his home renovating skills that will allow a homeowner to re-do her historic home and preserve a piece of culture. The one phone call launches a chain of events that results in a larger accomplishment, one beneficial for more than the person who initiated it.

The biggest reason to celebrate small accomplishments and productivity is that they lead to bigger accomplishments. There are two ways for this to happen. One, is the above example, where one small action—making a phone call, has a bigger outcome—preserving a piece of history—than the originator might have imagined. It is impossible to know how each action we take will affect others. The other way that small accomplishments lead to bigger accomplishments is on an individual level.

Small Accomplishments Generate Confidence

A marathon runner begins his training with one step. A mountain climber begins her climb with one step. A cake decorator begins decorating with one squirt of icing. The magician begins his magic show with one trick. Each small accomplishment, well done, builds confidence for achieving more, and bigger goals. Someone who starts training for a 5K run and completes several successfully will have the confidence to train for a half-marathon. Once a half-marathon is completed, a full marathon seems like a more realistic goal. Each taste of success is addictive and will lead to a desire for more success. These positive feelings will carry you through as you try to meet ever more challenging goals.

Accomplishments Support You During Difficult Times

As you learn and grow, leveraging your small accomplishments to achieve larger goals and open more challenging opportunities, your previous accomplishments can provide support during times of difficulty. At the beginning of each previously met goal, you were in the same place—uncertain, trying hard, pushing into the unknown, and you did it! Reflect on your past successes to provide support for yourself as you work toward larger and more difficult outcomes. That will keep your enthusiasm from waning and you attitude positive.

Each accomplishment is a step toward self-growth and improvement, and a forward movement on the path of life. Only you can remember and hold each of your accomplishments dear, and use them to leverage new opportunities. Treasure each goal met and each success achieved. You deserve it!
