Finding Creative Solutions

Any successful person will tell you that in order to succeed you must focus on solutions, not problems. "Effective people are not problem-minded; they're opportunity-minded. They feed opportunities and starve problems." - Stephen Covey

Being solution oriented requires that you implement a few vitally important models of thinking and acting. You must consciously decide where to place your focus, understand there's always a solution, and deliberately use the one word all successful people use on a regular basis.

Carefully decide where to place your focus

Henry Ford once said, "Obstacles are those frightful things you can see when you take your eyes off your goal."

The first step in adapting a solution oriented mindset is to consciously and deliberately place your focus on finding solutions. No matter how big the obstacle or setback, always embrace a forward thinking attitude. However, to find a solution you do need to place focus on the problem in the beginning. But there is a difference between analyzing the problem, and dwelling on it. Analyze it from all angles and make calculated decisions based on your conclusions. Then use the information gathered from analysis to brainstorm possible solutions.

There's always a solution in every problem

"Each problem has hidden in it an opportunity so powerful that it literally dwarfs the problem. The greatest success stories were created by people who recognized a problem and turned it into an opportunity." - Joseph Sugarman

Don't be blinded by the problem. Just remeber that everything has a counterpart. It's the natural order of the whole universe. There can't be light, without dark. Just like there can't be a problem without a solution; otherwise how could a problem even exist?

Only ask "How?"

Anytime you need answers or solutions, the only word in the english dictionary you'll ever need to ask is how. Asking how opens up the mind to the possibility that there is a solution. When you ask, "How can I...?" your subconscious mind begins digging through information to bring about creative solutions. An easy way to access the subconscious mind is through meditation, visualization or simply takin a nap. Always remember to ask how, regardless of the percieved difficulty of the situation. You'll be amazed at what you discover.
