A key factor in your success is maintaining a positive attitude. But that isn't always as easy as it sounds. Situations sometimes arise that put you down. But there are always ways of dealing with the challenges in life. There's always a way to keep your head up, and keep persisting towards your goals despite any obstacles in your way. Here's 7 tips I continuously use to keep myself in a positive state of mind.
1. Relax & Clear Your Mind
Sometimes the best thing you can do is simply relax. So often we get overwhelmed with many priorities & obligations that we hit a breaking point. Everthing becomes too stressful. And when you're stressed and overwhelmed, it's very difficult to keep an upbeat, positive attitude. It's in this moment that you need to relax. Plop down on a couch, take a DEEP breath, and let all the tension ease out of your body. Let your heartrate decrease, your muscles relax, and your worries fade away. Just be in the moment. Taking 5 minutes out of your day to relax, without a thought or care in the world, helps clear your mind enabling you to perform at your best.
2. Surround Yourself with Positive People
In a recent post, Surround Yourself with Positive People , I emphasize it's importance an benefits. Nothing will shift your attitude faster & more consistently than being around upbeat people. It comes down to chemistry. They function at a high energy level, buzzing around, laughing, smiling, and working hard. And when you're in their presence, their energy rubs off onto you. It's nearly impossible to be down and negative when your outnumbered by positive energetic people. Try it and take notice of who wins.
3. Focus on the Good ThingsSometimes we don't like to admit it, but there's always at least one good thing we can focus on in any given situation. It's the law of duality, balance, or whatever you'd like to call it. What is left if there is no right? How could a situation be negative without a positive involved? So there's always something positive to focus on. That positive should remain the primary focul point if your intention is to be in a great mood. Just think of focus like a flashlight. If you point a flashlight in the dark at something negative, that's all you will see. Move the flashlight around to see the positive and the benefits will be astounding.
4. Review Your Past Accomplishments
I was listening to Bill Bartman on The Big Idea and he said he kept a list of all of his past accomplishments on a notecard in his pocket. He carried around with him everywhere he went, and whenever he encountered a problem or obstacle, he would pull out the list and read through all of his great accomplishments. And as he began reading through the list, the problem would shrink into real perspective, and his attitude would shift more positively.
5. Remember Your Ultimate Purpose
What is your ultimate purpose? Your ultimate purpose is the reason you are doing the things you're doing. It's important to remember the big picture when little things get in our way. Focusing on your grand vision, life's purpose, or ultimate destiny will keep you going in difficult times. It will motivate and inspire you to find solutions. It also triggers the positive emotional connection (passion) that you have towards your goal.
6. Realize Your Emotional State
Your emotional state is usually a choice. Sometimes things are very bad, but its still your chioce how to react. Resist the urge to unconsciously react to negative situations with negative emotions and embrace the habit of consciously thinking things through. Once you achieve control over your emotional state, it becomes easier to put yourself in a positive mood on a regular basis. To accomplish this feat takes practice, but its well worth the benefits.
7. Do Something To Make Yourself Feel Great
In any given situation, there's usually something we can do to make ourselves feel better. Walking is a great way to elevate your mood. Going for a walk can quickly shift our mood, as it engages our body in a rythymic & repetitive task. (1) "A quick walk every day makes you feel more positive and more in control. Walking releases endorphins, the anti-stress, feel-good hormones naturally produced by your body. Research shows that endorphins are natural "mood elevators". They are responsible for the "runner's high" feeling you get after being active." You can also take a daily nap, which has wide reaching benefits. ( 2) "Research on napping suggests that an afternoon nap as short as ten minutes can enhance alertness, mood, and mental performance, especially after a night of poor sleep."
Try incorporating these tips into your daily routine. You'll find that your mood will be elevated, you'll have more energy, and as an overall result you will feel better about yourself.
